U35 Poetry Reading
U35 is a bi-monthly reading series for poets under 35, held once each January, March, May, July, September, and November. The series seeks to promote and bolster young Massachusetts poets while giving them a venue to share their work and connect with other poets. Our September readers are Alexa Barton, Rachael Hershon, and Katrina Rojas. Read more about them below:
Alexa Barton is from (obscure beach town) and she lives very (bad emotion ending in ly) in her bedroom with (punk bands) posters staring down at her like an angsty reflection. She has two brothers and parents who all (general angst) the hell out of her, yet she loves them anyway. Alexa has been writing fiction and poetry since (time period) and has loved (measurement) of her time writing them.
Rachael Hershon's work has appeared in Bop Dead City, Amaryllis, and Random Sample Review, among others. She is originally from Framingham, MA and is currently a 7th grade English teacher in the greater Boston area.
Katrina Rojas is a student at UMass Amherst where she plans to major in English and minor in Spanish. She graduated from Beaver Country Day School Spring of 2018. Katrina is a young poet whose work can be found on this website and other social media platforms. She was a finalist for the Storm King Poetry Contest of 2018 and enjoys reading poetry books whenever she can. Katrina has had a passion for writing since the beginning of her high school career and continues to write independently. She was born and raised in Boston but is fully immersed in her Dominican culture which is a big part of her life. She often draws inspiration from her dreams and life experiences which is well reflected in her poems. Katrina sees and uses poetry as a way of communication and therapy. Her goals are to be a role model for others, and publish several poetry books.
